The short version. Notaki has no account and no server of its own. We do not collect, see or sell your notes, recordings or personal information. There are no analytics, ads or trackers. Your notes stay on your devices and in your own iCloud. Note text goes to another company only if you set up an optional service with your own key.
This policy covers the Notaki app for iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac, and this website. "We" means Jesse Skelton, the developer of Notaki.
What we collect
Nothing. Notaki does not send your notes, recordings, contacts, location or usage data to us. We have no database of users. The app contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking code, and it does not use the advertising identifier.
Where your notes are kept
On your devices
Notes, recordings, photos, lists, habits and settings are stored on your iPhone and Mac. Your Apple Watch keeps each recording until your iPhone confirms that it has it. The watch talks only to your iPhone and makes no internet connections of its own.
In your iCloud
When you are signed in to iCloud, Notaki can sync your notes between your devices through your private iCloud database. Apple stores this data, under Apple's privacy policy. We cannot see it.
- Sync with iCloud is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings > iCloud.
- Recordings (voice clips and meetings) do not sync unless you turn on Include Audio.
- Your category settings sync through iCloud whenever you are signed in to iCloud.
- Backups in iCloud are encrypted. A small label with the date and the number of notes is kept beside each backup. The backup key is kept in your iCloud Keychain.
Transcription
Notaki uses Apple's speech recognition to turn your recordings into text. It runs on your device when your device supports your language. If it does not, Apple's speech recognition can use Apple's servers, under Apple's privacy policy.
You can also download an optional speech model (Parakeet), which then runs entirely on your device.
Titles, summaries and other smart features
These features are off until you turn them on for a category. By default they use the model that is built into your device, and the text does not leave your device.
You can also choose to connect one of these services. To connect one, you add your own account key:
- Anthropic (privacy policy)
- OpenAI (privacy policy)
- Google Gemini (privacy policy)
- OpenRouter (privacy policy)
- A server that you run on your own network
When you connect a service, Notaki sends it the text of the note being processed and the instructions for the task. For spoken commands, it also sends the names of your lists. Recordings are never sent. The service handles the text under its own privacy policy and your agreement with it.
If you choose the "Automatic" engine and you have saved a key, Notaki uses your device's model first. It sends text to your service only when your device's model is not available.
Your keys are stored in the Keychain on your device. A backup file that you protect with a password includes them. An iCloud backup includes them only if you turn on Include API Keys.
Model downloads
Some optional models (such as Parakeet on iPhone, and local language models on Mac) download from Hugging Face when you tap Download. Hugging Face receives the usual details of a download request, such as your IP address, under its privacy policy. Notaki sends it no notes.
Permissions
Notaki asks for each permission only when a feature needs it. You can change them at any time in your device's Settings.

Photos that you choose with the photo picker are copied into the note. Notaki does not get access to the rest of your library.
Siri, widgets and Spotlight
Notaki gives note titles and text to Siri, Spotlight and widgets on your device so that you can find and open your notes. This stays on your device. When you turn on Require Face ID, Notaki keeps note text out of widgets, Spotlight and Siri until you unlock the app.
Exports and sharing
You decide when a note leaves Notaki: the share sheet, a PDF, a Markdown export, a folder such as an Obsidian vault, a backup file, or a Shortcut. After you send a note to another app or place, that app or place controls it.
Purchases
Apple handles the purchase of Notaki Unlimited. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. Notaki checks with Apple, on your device, whether you own the unlock.
Deleting your data
- Deleted notes go to Recently Deleted. They are removed for good after 30 days, or at once when you tap Delete Now or Delete All.
- Settings > iCloud > Erase Everything removes your notes, backups and category settings from this device and from iCloud. Erase your other devices too.
- Backups that you saved by hand stay in iCloud until you delete them.
- When you delete the app, the data on that device is deleted with it.
Because we hold none of your data, we cannot delete or return it for you. You have full control of it in the app.
Children
Notaki is not made for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or outside fonts and scripts. Our web host may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update it on this page and change the date at the top.
